For those of you that are subscribers, I hope you enjoy the Food Energy section of your moon rituals as much as I love creating it for you. My passion for learning about and sharing all that I’ve come to understand about the next level of healing, using the energy of food, has been three years in the making. It is amazing how eating for your energy centers perfectly dovetails with using Moon Energy for intentional living. When you consistently combine the two modalities the results are a pretty powerful affirmation of creating wellness through energy.
There is, however, a super interesting way to eat for your energy centers that is rooted in the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda. I was recently introduced to seed cycling, a natural, food-based way of balancing your hormones. I am loving this natural way of using the moon cycle, my menstrual cycle, and food to create health-oriented rhythm in my physical body (Seed cycling is not just limited to women as you’ll see in the article linked below).
I wanted to share seed cycling with you to spotlight how this hormone balancing method is intimately connected to your Sacral Chakra which is one of the primary energy centers activated during Libra season.
The energetic area governing women’s reproductive systems and men’s fertility is your Sacral Chakra. When your Sacral center is blocked physical disturbances that can occur include PMS symptoms, reproductive organ issues, cancer (particularly of the colon, ovaries, or uterus), fluid retention, and promiscuity, while emotional disturbances can surface as guilt, compulsive/emotional eating, shame, depression, inability to make commitments in relationships, and sexual issues.
Some of the best whole foods that balance your Sacral center are seeds! This Libra/Sacral Chakra season is the perfect time to learn about seed cycling and to start to incorporate this healing modality into your daily living, especially if you are experiencing any of the imbalances described above.
Check out this amazing article by Dr. Amy Neuzil, ND on all things seed cycling from how to use the moon and your menstrual cycle to activate hormonal balance to which seeds to consume on each day.
There are so many ways you can incorporate these specific seed combos into your daily diet but my favorite ways are in a green smoothie and this Sacral meal: Sweet Potato Toast.
Sweet Potato Toast
THE perfect meal to activate your Sacral Chakra and incorporate seed cycling!
1 large sweet potato, cooked and cut in half
2-4 T nut butter (almond, sunflower, walnut or cashew; peanuts are NOT a nut but a legume)
2 T total of your seed cycling blend (depending on where you are in your cycle)
1 T unsweetened shredded coconut
sprinkle of cinnamon, optional
Evenly divide the nut butter through the cinnamon (if using) between the two sweet potato halves.
If you really need a bit of “sweetness” in life, drizzle a little honey on top. I love this for breakfast, a mid afternoon snack and even dessert.
