Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.Carl Jung
We all want to live our best lives; to be healthy, at ease, purposeful, loving and loved. While we set out each day to make this happen, it’s not always easy and life manages to throw us curve balls. We duck quickly, jib and jab, look around, and in the words of Talking Heads, we ask ourselves “Well, how did I get here?”
When we live unconsciously, it can feel like we don’t have much control over our lives. What is happening to us must be due to external circumstances beyond our control. If we believe in this mindset, we will continue to experience the same old outcomes, yet expect different results. That is actually called insanity and keeps us living less than what we desire for ourselves.
There is, however, a simple and nurturing way to stop leaving fate to chance and make your unconscious conscious. YOU are the creator of your life, and lovingly setting intentions for what you want is one of the most powerful tools you possess to carve out a life of meaning, wellness, and abundance.
What is “Intention Setting?”
Setting intentions are how we make our desires real. Everything in the universe starts with intention. It is the starting point of every desire and where your will joins in to actualize what you want. An intention is a directed impulse of consciousness that contains the seed form of that which you aim to create. Like real seeds, intentions can’t grow if you hold onto them. Only when you release your intentions into the fertile depths of your consciousness can they grow and flourish.
You are now thinking to yourself, “Aha! I get it! I will tell the Universe what I want! I’ll clarify my desires, plant seeds of intention so that what I want can grow and flourish!” Is it as simple as just saying out loud, “here is what I desire so now it should happen?” Not exactly.
Many people set intentions for what they want to create or experience yet they may not understand the energy they attach to their intentions. Intentions declare that you are ready to receive. Intentions state your willingness and openness to co-create. You are stating that you welcome your intentions to be manifested in your life.
When you set an intention with a mindset of openness to receive, you affirm that what you are seeking is already being provided, is already created for you to receive. You say clearly that you are ready, willing, and open to accept that which is in your Right Highest Good for the next step of your journey.
Work with What We Have
The Universe wants to grant your wishes; however, you have to show up in your own life and meet the Universe halfway. Not surprisingly, nature provides us with a nurturing way to consistently be a co-creator in manifesting what we desire.
The natural cycle of the moon, starting with a New Moon, gives us a compass of sorts to create flow and pause in our monthly life experiences. Implementing a ritual around your intention setting on each New Moon is an easy yet powerful way to connect with your life experience. Lunar practices are designed to help you cultivate self-knowledge, and create a better life.
Rituals and Soulful Self-Care
Why rituals? Necessity is the mother of invention, and rituals were born out of the perspective that life is inherently difficult. Rituals have for eons been the tools humans have used to release and express emotion, build their personal identity and the identity of their tribe, bring order to chaos, orient themselves in time and space, effect real transformation, and bring layers of meaning and texture to their lives. How lovely then that we now reside in an age where we can transform this ancient tradition from survival energy to a loving and nurturing energy to support our modern daily living.
I always close out my local intention setting events with “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” I prefer, and I hope you do too, to decide my own life experience and not leave it to chance. Carl Jung agrees too.
